Dr. Beth Byles founded Kinetic Equine Medicine to focus on finding and treating the underlying cause of lameness and lameness related performance deficiencies. After serving as the treating veterinarian for a large population of horses with severe equipment and body related lameness Dr. Byles sought alternative approaches to equine lameness; that is where she met and became inspired to pursue body lameness by Dr. Audrey DeClue. Body lameness approaches equine soundness with the idea that if the neck, back, or pelvis are dysfunctional this will lead to improper biomechanics and overweighting of the limbs. This results in lameness which is conventionally treated with joint injections and other methods.
Dr. Beth Byles is a graduate of the University of Illinois Veterinary College. After graduation she completed an internship at the prestigious Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center. Several years after her internship she commissioned into the United States Army where she oversaw the veterinary care of the Army's Caisson horses at Arlington National Cemetery. It was during this time that Dr. Byles met Dr. DeClue while consulting on very severe axial skeleton and body lameness issues. This experience fueled Dr. Byles' interest into body lameness and led her to focus on body lameness after leaving the Army.
Dr. Elizabeth Fish is a graduate of Cornell University. After graduation she completed an internship at Rhienbeck Equine. After her internship she started Shadowrock Equine. Dr. Fish completed her certification in acupuncture in 2010 at the Chi institute and was trained in Chiropractics at Options for Animals. She then began work at Equine Integrated Veterinary Solutions (EIVS). Dr. Fish has continued her own practice were she focuses on Equine Acupuncture, Medical Manipulation (Chiropractic), and Myofacial Release work for the equine athlete. Dr. Byles and Dr. Fish work with each other in a complementive consulting manner. Dr. Fish currently services New York and Connecticut in the summer months and Ocala/Wellington Florida in the winter months.
We value and seek-out collaboration between other veterinarians as well as other members of the horse's care team to include body workers and saddler fitters.
Our goal is to place the horse's needs first and do what is in their best interest in order to restore their comfort and performance. Through collaboration and fostering a positive work relationship with other equine professionals we are able to achieve effective outcomes.
